Fear Street: Prom Queen First Trailer Slashes Its Way Into Netflix’s Beloved Franchise

Get ready, because the creepy vibes of Shadyside are making a comeback on Netflix with the new trailer for Fear Street: Prom Queen. This follows the huge success of the Fear Street trilogy back in 2021, with its unique blend of interwoven stories and horror genres that hooked the audience. Expectations couldn’t be higher for this next chapter. The trailer hints at another bloody journey inspired by R.L. Stine’s classic horror novel. This time, we’re thrown into 1988, focusing on the dangerous dynamics of a high school prom. Netflix is really doubling down on one of its hottest original movie franchises with this launch.

Fear Street: Prom Queen dives headfirst into the fierce social game at Shadyside High as prom season kicks off. As the preview shows, the top girl group, the “It Girls,” are fiercely campaigning for that prom queen title. Things take a twist when an unexpected outsider gets on the ballot, just as other candidates mysteriously begin to vanish. It transforms what’s supposed to be a celebration into a deadly night for the class of ‘88. This movie takes Stine’s 1992 novel The Prom Queen to the screen, focusing on a specific story, switching it up a bit from the trilogy, which pulled in several of Stine’s tales.

The guy behind the camera for Fear Street: Prom Queen is Matt Palmer (Calibre), who co-wrote the script with Donald McLeary. They’ve got a solid cast to back them up, with India Fowler (TV’s Insomnia), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), and Ariana Greenblatt (Ahsoka) in the mix. Adding some seasoned talent to the mix, we have Chris Klein (American Pie), Lili Taylor (Outer Range), and Katherine Waterston (Babylon).

The buzz for Fear Street: Prom Queen is thanks to how well the original trilogy did back in the summer of 2021. Netflix tried a new thing by rolling out Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 over just three weeks. This approach really worked, keeping fans engaged and buzz going, making it a big moment in horror film culture. The trilogy was praised for its storytelling, production, and how it jumped through different horror genres and periods.

Usually, Netflix is better at creating TV sensations, like Stranger Things and Wednesday, but it hasn’t nailed movie series as consistently—projects like Bright and 6 Underground didn’t quite stick. But Fear Street is different. It showed that Netflix can create multi-part film hits that audiences and critics love. With Prom Queen, they’re shifting gears a bit, adapting just one of Stine’s books instead of crafting a new tale linked to the main curse. This switch lets the franchise explore more of Shadyside’s past and use more of Stine’s stories, offering a fresh formula for more standalone adventures alongside the main story.

Mark your calendars because Fear Street: Prom Queen will be dropping on Netflix on May 23, 2025.
